B.C. sawmills production continues to decline, according to data released by Statistics Canada Monday.
It fell 38.8% in February compared with production in the same period a year ago. Production cuts at coastal sawmills dropped 48.3%; central Interior production was down as much as 53.4%.
In February, total lumber production across Canada fell 13.6% to 3.49 million cubic metres compared with production the previous month.
Lumber shipments also fell 6.5% across Canada to 3.55 million cubic metres. Shipments out of B.C. have fallen 34.3% overall, with Coastal sawmills suffering the largest declines of 48.4%.
