Victoria-based Streetlight Intelligence Inc. (TSX-V:SLQ) announced it has entered a non-binding memorandum of understanding with California-based National Semicondoctor Corp. (NYSE:NSM) in a move the company says will expand its market.

“Today, not many streetlight manufacturers are in the control systems area, so by us working with National, we hope to be able to supply to lighting manufacturers a module that will work with the new types of technology like LED lighting, and they can integrate it with their current light systems,” said Streetlight Intelligence CEO Vincent Krynski.

“Hopefully what [this partnership] does is rather than selling an independent, stand-alone controller, we’re looking at selling a control module that can fit into everybody’s light box.”

Streetlight Intelligence develops advanced street light optimization systems, which provide improved lamp performance, adaptive lighting control and system-wide communications for centralized light management.

Krynski noted Streetlight Intelligence’s technology is energy and cost-efficient.

“We have a technology that greatly reduces the amount of power that is used in street lighting, provides a wireless maintenance loop and eases not only the cost but also the greenhouse gas emissions along the lines of the electricity that’s used,” he said.

At press time, Streetlight stock was trading at $0.11, up 38 %.
