A new Edward Jones survey has found that, as the recession continues, more Canadians are worrying about their immediate employment prospects than their retirement.

About 32% of Canadians were concerned about their job security. That topped concerns over stock market performance (19%), retirement savings (14%) and the cost of health care (15%).

Michelle Kay-Scott, a senior retirement planning specialist for Edward Jones, said Canadians have become almost as worried as Americans about keeping their jobs. The U.S. Edward Jones survey found that 38% of Americans were concerned about their job security.

According to the company's Canadian survey, young Canadians were the most concerned about their jobs: half of the respondents aged 25 to 34 said it was their primary concern during the recession. Albertans were the most concerned (38%), followed by Quebecers and Ontarians.
