Sustainable infrastructure key to future quality of life: Siemens

Sustainable infrastructure will be the key to maintaining a high quality of life in Canadian cities, according to a June 6 Siemens Canada survey.

Sustainable infrastructure will be the key to maintaining a high quality of life in Canadian cities, according to a June 6 Siemens Canada survey.

The study showed a striking contrast between the quality of life that civic experts believe exists in their cities today compared with what they expect in the future without substantial infrastructure investments.

While 74% of the experts who participated in the survey rated the quality of life in their cities as above average, only 44% are optimistic about their cities’ future without substantial investments in infrastructure.

Vancouver’s experts were more optimistic about their city adopting so-called “green” solutions than were experts in other places.

In Vancouver, 71% rate their city among the best at adopting environmentally sustainable solutions.

Those in Quebec were at the other end of the spectrum, with almost no one rating their city above average.

U.K.-based Mercer ranked Vancouver tied for having the fourth best quality of life in the world.
