Despite a slowing economy and declining real estate prices, more than two-thirds of Canadians are willing to pay more for a home that includes environmentally friendly features, according to a recent TD Canada Trust survey.

According to the company's second annual Green Home poll, 68% of respondents would pay more for features that would yield potential energy savings.

Roughly 56% of the Western Canadians surveyed said they'd be willing to spend 5% to 10% more on a home that includes sustainable features. More than 70% of respondents would consider completing an environmental assessment as part of their renovation plans.

The survey found that 90% of respondents have already made improvements or will be making improvements in the next year to reduce their home's environmental impact.

Other findings:

roughly 68% of Western Canadians plan to or have already converted their traditional light bulbs to compact florescent alternatives;

59% plan to apply weather stripping to reduce drafts; and roughly half plan to replace or upgrade their windows.
