The Government of B.C. announced today that, after a three-year proposal process, Telus (TSX:T) has secured a 10-year strategic telecommunications services contract worth approximately $100 million per year.
This contract will provide telecommunications and strategic services to government and its public sector partners, while expanding high-speed Internet connections for families and businesses in rural and remote areas of B.C. and improving cellular coverage along highways across the province.
The government stated that the contract would also benefit up to 450 schools in the province with improved high-speed fibre optics, which will increase bandwidth.
The contract covers long distance, conferencing, voice, data, cellular and strategic services for core government, six regional health authorities, BC Hydro, WorkSafeBC, ICBC and BC Lottery Corp.
Telus is also the telecom provider for the governments of Ontario and Quebec. (See “Telus on top” – issue 1130; June 21-27.)
