Two more B.C. sawmills are casualties in the continued downturn in the lumber industry.

Montreal-based forestry company Tembec Inc. is shutting down production at two of its B.C. sawmills due to the sharp decline in lumber demand, low lumber prices and the impact of the high Canadian dollar.

Roughly 120 million board feet of production will be affected by shutting down a third shift of production at Tembec's sawmill in Elko, B.C., a second shift of its finger joint mill and a planer mill at its Cranbrook, B.C. facility.

The shutdown is part of Tembec's production curtailment across Canada, which includes partial closures at its various mills in Quebec and Ontario.

The announcement comes days after Canfor Corp. (TSX:CFP) announced that it was reducing production of at its OSB and plywood mill at a number of its sawmills.

Canfor's curtailments affected almost a dozen mills in B.C.
