Terasen applies to build natural gas refueling stations

Terasen natural gas refueling stations may soon service buses and garbage trucks around B.C.

Terasen natural gas refueling stations may soon service buses and garbage trucks around B.C.

Terasen announced Thursday it had applied to the BC Utilities Commission (BCUC) to provide both compressed and liquefied natural gas fueling stations that will be built on the customers’ own premises and charge rates set by the BCUC.

Commercial fleet use is believed to be the largest market for natural gas-powered vehicles. Terasen considers natural gas to be a viable and low-carbon energy source.

The company is targeting the fleet vehicle industry in part to help stem the impact of climate change in B.C., said Doug Stout, Terasen’s vice-president of energy solutions and external relations.
