TNS reports Canadian consumer confidence rose again in August

Canadian consumer confidence rose for a third consecutive month, according to the latest survey by TNS Canadian Facts. The overall index jumped to 99.2, up 6% from July's 93.4 and June's 92.

The overall index jumped to 99.2, up 6% from July's 93.4 and June's 92.

"The gains we have observed just in the past month are particularly notable," said Michael Antecol, vice-president of TNS Canadian Facts.

Each of the three indices that make up the overall index posted sizable increases in August. The present situation index, which captures evaluations of the overall state of the current economic and employment situation, rose 4.3 points to 83.4 from July's 79.1.

The buy index, which gauges the degree people think the current period is a good time to make major purchases rose five points to 108.3 from 103.2.

The expectations index, which measures consumers estimation of the economy and employment in the next six months jumped 8.5 points to 111.1 from 102.6.
