TransLink has posted seven possible designs for a proposed rapid transit line along Broadway to the University of British Columbia (UBC).
The designs can be viewed on the transportation authority’s website and include maps, estimated travel times, costs and projected daily riderships.
The UBC Line Rapid Transit study is considering three different technologies: bus rapid transit (BRT), light rail transit (LRT) and rail rapid transit (RRT).
The proposed designs would extend from Commercial Drive to UBC, and include combinations between LRT, BRT and RRT technology or an improved bus route.
The most expensive proposed design is a $3.2 billion plan that would see RRT technology ferry commuters from Commercial Drive to UBC in 20 minutes with an estimated daily ridership between 137,000 and 146,000.
The cheapest design is an improvement to the conventional bus schedule that would cost $325 million, with an estimated travel time of 30 minutes and daily ridership of 75,000.
TransLink is seeking public input on the proposed designs, and residents can share their opinions via an April 4 webinar, workshops or by filling out a questionnaire.
A workshop is scheduled tonight beginning at 6 p.m. at the UBC Ponderosa Centre.
