Renowned property developer John Evans is lauding the opportunities on Vancouver Island these days.
After five years of work, Evans said Wednesday his Cayet project – a master-planned community in the Comox Valley – was finally ready for development.
“We’ve secured all of the necessary zoning as well as the official community plan amendments to enable us to proceed with the development of the project,” said Evans, founder and president of Trilogy Group of Companies.
“As well, we have basically confirmed water and we have also confirmed how we’re going to deal with sewage.”
Evans, who is known as the founder and proprietor of Opus Hotels and a key player in the development of Whistler, believes the Comox Valley offers investors a rare opportunity to buy into a growing market at affordable prices.
“The Comox Valley, in our minds, is the most amenity-rich affordable market in British Columbia today,” said Evans.
Cayet is a 720-acre master-planned community that would include residential and commercial development.
Evans said it’s zoned for more than 800,000 square feet of commercial development and, when complete, would include 1,350 residential units ranging from studio apartments to single-family homes.
Located along the Inland Island Highway, Cayet is being marketed as the only highway commercial development between Nanaimo and Campbell River.
Construction is expected to begin early next year.
