Despite a sluggish economy, 29% of Canadian employees expect a bonus in 2011, according to a BMO holiday survey conducted by Leger Marketing.
Slightly more than half of those surveyed (51%) believe that their bonus will be the same as last year while 28% thought that the bonus would be larger than last year;22% thought that the bonus would be smaller than last year.
The survey did not break out the percentage of British Columbians who expect a bonus but it found that 30% expect smaller ones than last year.
The British Columbians who expect to get a bonus intend to use it to:
- pay down household debt (56%);
- pay for holiday season spending (21%);
- reward themselves with a new consumer purchase (14%); and
- take a vacation 12%.
