B.C.'s major projects inventory reported an 8% increase in the total value of construction projects planned or underway in the province during the third quarter of 2009.
Compiled by Jackie Hamilton & Associates Ltd. for the provincial government, the report noted 882 major capital projects worth $189 billion in various stages of completion. That compares with 863 major projects worth at least $15 million with a total value of $174.7 billion in the third quarter of 2008.
The inventory reported that 36 new projects worth approximately $2.7 billion were proposed in the quarter.
The largest in the Lower Mainland include the $133 million UBC Pharmaceutical Science Building and the $100 million East Grandview Heights development in Surrey.
The largest projects announced this quarter were in the Interior, which include the $1 billion Ponderosa residential development in Peachland, and a $200 million industrial recycling plant in Christina Lake.
The report noted 19 projects worth $900 million began construction in the quarter including the $150 million Beasley residential tower in Vancouver and the $141 million Okanagan transmission reinforcement project in Kelowna.
