Vancouver hiring to dip in Q4: survey

Vancouver’s hiring climate is expected to slow slightly for the final quarter of the year, but remains substantially stronger than a year ago and ahead of the national average, according to a Manpower employment outlook survey released this morning,

“In the Vancouver area, Canadian employers are expecting an upbeat hiring climate going into our fourth quarter,” said Monica Star, Manpower’s branch manager for the Metro Vancouver market.

The survey found that 21% of Vancouver companies are planning to hire in the last quarter and 4% are anticipating workforce cutbacks, for a net employment outlook of 17%.

“Vancouver’s fourth quarter net employment outlook of 17% is a slight decrease of the outlook of 18% reported from the previous quarter,” Star said. “But it’s a seven percentage point improvement from the outlook reported during the same time last year, indicating a favourable hiring environment for the coming months.”

Nationally, Manpower is forecasting a hiring outlook of 13%, which is a slight drop from the previous quarter and a two percentage point drop from this time last year.
