Vancouver luxury dealership joins national automotive group

Vancouver’s MCL Motors has been acquired by the Dilawri Group, a family-owned network of 30 car dealerships across Canada.

Vancouver’s MCL Motors has been acquired by the Dilawri Group, a family-owned network of 30 car dealerships across Canada.

Financial details of the sale were not disclosed, however, former MCL owner David Ho, will maintain a minority interest in the company.

Lisa Kavanagh, spokesperson for the Dilawri Group, told BIV last night that the company had been eying MCL for some time. She said the company had been looking to expand its luxury car business. In addition to having three BMW dealerships, one in Regina and two in Calgary, Dilawri sells Bentleys, Aston Martins and Spyker cars at its ultra-luxury dealership in Calgary.

The Dilawri Group employs more than 1,500 people with dealerships primarily in Toronto, Regina and Calgary with two Acura dealerships in Vancouver: Acura of Langley and Burrard Acura.

“This investment will allow us, especially within the city of Vancouver, to provide our customers with a cross section of products that fit the needs of any demographic.”

The deal will add MCL’s Porsche, Jaguar and Land Rover brands into Dilawri’s luxury car group.

John Chesman, MCL’s general manager said in an interview that the dealership would be better able to manage its inventory of Bentleys and Aston Martins, as well as expand in the used car market. Clients would not see any changes in MCL’s staff or in its community involvement and local sponsorships.

Kavanagh said the main improvement would occur at its Porsche dealership, which will  be moving into downtown Vancouver from its current location on West 3rd Avenue near Pine Street.
