Vancouver's new housing price increases this past October were near the top of the list when compared with other Canadian cities, according to Statistics Canada.

Prices rose 1.1% in Quebec City and 0.7% in Vancouver in October compared with prices in September. Vancouver's prices continued to rise as market conditions improve.

The B.C. Real Estate Association reported that October sales were among the highest since October 2003.

Nationally, housing prices rose 0.3% in October following a 0.5% increase in September.

In Quebec, some builders reported higher prices as a result of increased material costs, while others reported higher land prices due to the scarcity of supply.

The only two markets in Canada that saw continued price declines were Charlottetown (-0.7%) and Edmonton (-0.3%).
