Vancouver’s October construction intentions were down 4.5% from the previous month to $388.1 million, and down 54.6% year over year.
Statistics Canada released the numbers this morning as part of its monthly assessment of building permit values across the country.
The trend in Victoria was similar to Vancouver’s. The value of its building permits were down 15.3% from September to $42.5 million and down 37.9% from the previous year.
Meanwhile in Abbotsford-Mission, construction intentions spiked 111.8% in October to $26.9 million, for a 149.3% gain over the previous year.
Provincially, the value of B.C.’s building permits rose 5.6% from the previous month, led by an 18.8% jump in non-residential construction intentions. However, B.C. still experienced a 38.8% drop from October 2010 for total building intentions and a 42.1% drop for non-residential building permits.
Nationally, building permit values rose 11.9% in October, compared with September, to hit $6.3 billion. Non-residential building intentions in Ontario were the largest driver of the gain.
