Wavefront, the commercialization centre accelerating the growth of Canada’s wireless companies, announced today that it has doubled the size of its centre and has a number of incubator office spaces available for wireless entrepreneurs.

The expansion to 14,000 square feet is a result of Wavefront’s success in helping Canadian wireless companies go to market through its accelerator programs and services. It received $11.6 million in new federal funding through the Networks of Centres of Excellence Program.

“There can be no underestimating how much one’s surroundings contribute to productivity and morale,” said Nigel Malkin, co-founder of QR Loyalty and a Wavefront tenant.

“The opportunity for collaboration among wireless industry peers, coupled with the services available at Wavefront, make it the perfect place to launch a wireless company.”

In addition to standard office amenities and IT infrastructure, Wavefront provides on-site access to a suite of commercialization services aimed at getting wireless companies to market faster, including:

  • 300-plus mobile handsets and tablets for testing;
  • a mobile network test lab;
  • usability test lab and services;
  • strategic business and technical advice from industry experts; and
  • networking and matchmaking opportunities.

“In less than two years, Wavefront has doubled the size of its accelerator centre and has helped more than 21 early-stage wireless companies go to market through its incubator programs,” said Wavefront president James Maynard.

“We are very pleased with the results of our previous tenants and look forward to working with new innovators in helping them grow and achieve success in the thriving wireless industry.”
