Vancouver-based HootSuite Media Inc. said Monday its popular namesake application for managing Twitter accounts now has more than a million users.
The company also released some figures illustrating HootSuite’s usage patterns:
In contrast to the million users it has today, HootSuite had 250,000 users in January 2010.
HootSuite CEO Ryan Holmes explained to BIV in June how the company is monetizing its popular Twitter client. (See “HootSuite explains revenue generation strategy” – BIV Business Today, June 3.)
The company has attached a “freemium” model to the social media dashboard, which means users will still be able to use HootSuite freely but will pay for additional bronze, silver and gold standard services.
HootSuite is used to dig up analytics and to monitor and add to the larger conversations in the social networking spheres of Twitter and, more recently, Facebook and LinkedIn.
The company was spun out of Invoke Media last January after raising $2 million in financing.
