Victoria planning to invest in North Vancouver City renewable energy

The province is investing more than $204,000 to install 120 solar hot water panels atop North Vancouver City's new municipal library.

The province is investing more than $204,000 to install 120 solar hot water panels atop North Vancouver City's new municipal library.

The panels will annually generate an estimated 283,635 kilowatt hours of electricity that will supplement the district's hot water heating system, which is fuelled by natural gas.

Money for the project will come from the $125.5 million Canada-B.C. Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund. Most of the infrastructure funding goes to communities with fewer than 250,000 people, and 60% of the fund is used to assist environmental projects.

The rest of the funds are dedicated to projects involving tourism, recreation and infrastructure.
