The province plans to spend $10 million to promote development and production of liquid biofuels through its Innovative Clean Energy Fund.

The investment will focus on technology that will convert biomass into liquid fuels that can be used for anything from transportation to home heating.

Projects eligible to submit proposals for the funding include those that are applying conventional and second-generation technologies. New production capacity using conventional biodiesel technology can also qualify for funding in this call for proposals.

All projects must demonstrate a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions relative to conventional petroleum-based fuels based on a full life-cycle assessment.

The province has a goal of reducing GHG emissions in the province by 33% by 2020.
