Auto West Group’s BMW location in Richmond today capped off a $2 million commitment to the environment with the installation of a 60-foot vertical-axis wind turbine.
The newly installed wind turbine, manufactured by Cleanfield Energy, is the first of its kind in the Lower Mainland to be used in a commercial application.
Approval of the turbine involved years of planning and municipal approval, but is expected to drastically reduce Auto West's reliance on utility grid electricity.
This latest addition is one of many energy saving efforts implemented through Auto West Group’s environmental initiatives. Additional features include:
- two 4,000-gallon underground tanks that collect storm water runoff;
- water recycling system;
- eight green roof installments;
- eight different gardens;
- 40,000 honeybees;
- geothermal heating and cooling;
- new recycling building; and
- solar panels.
