YVR among the best of the worst Canadian airports

Canadians have included Vancouver International Airport among the worst airports in the country but it still stands head and shoulders above Toronto’s Pearson International Airport, according to a FlightNetwork.com survey released Monday.

Canadians have included Vancouver International Airport among the worst airports in the country but it still stands head and shoulders above Toronto’s Pearson International Airport, according to a FlightNetwork.com survey released Monday.

The poll asked 783 Canadians to "weigh-in" on what makes a bad airport.

Of the participants, just 5.4% said Vancouver was the worst airport in the country compared with 27.6% who said Toronto’s Pearson International Airport is the worst.

The factors that contributed to the ratings included bad service, crowds, slow security and a lack of amenities.

FlightNetwork.com said Montreal’s Pierre Elliot Trudeau airport was named the second-worst airport in the country garnering 16% of the vote, followed by Winnipeg, Edmonton, Halifax, Vancouver and Victoria.

Despite the bad news, FlightNetwork.com said the results might have more to do with how much traffic the airport handles than the quality of its service.

“Canadians tend to have the most negative experiences at the airports that they spend the most time in,” said CEO Naman Budhdeo. “It makes sense that Pearson would have the highest vote for ‘worst’ airport based on the fact that it is Canada’s busiest airport.”
