YVR lags Toronto for duty free selection: poll

Approximately 76% more travellers believe the Toronto Pearson International Airport (TPIA) has the best selection of duty free products in Canada, compared with Vancouver International Airport (YVR).

Online travel information company FlightNetwork.com released a poll January 9 that showed that 47.1% of travellers believe TPIA has the best duty free selection in Canada.

That compares with 26.8% of travellers who believe Vancouver’s airport has the country’s best duty free selection.

YVR trails TPIA and is second in Canada among major airports in categories such as total aircraft movements and total passengers. Toronto handled 31.9 million passengers in 2010 whereas 16.8 million people passed through YVR that year.

New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport was deemed to have the best duty free selection in the U.S. by 29.8% of the respondents in FlightNetwork.com’s survey.

Worldwide, London’s Heathrow Airport was the most popular, earning 26.2% of votes from respondents.
