The end of Australia’s automotive industry may be in sight.
Ford and Holden have announced they will cease manufacturing in Australia in 2016 and 2017. Toyota, the only manufacturer currently committed to Australia, is deciding where to build its new Camry model. It is in the midst of negotiations with the employees’ union.
The new government of conservative Prime Minister Tony Abbott announced a $100 million subsidy to the automotive industry after the announcements by Ford and Holden.
