Foreign investment in Bangladesh dropped by 32% to US$410.68 million in the first three months of this year against US$606.92 million in the same period last year. Local economists and business people blame administrative barriers, infrastructure bottlenecks and political uncertainty. But Aftab ul Islam, former president of the local American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh, is reported as saying he believes the problem runs deeper. He noted that Bangladesh ranks 174th out of 189 countries on the World Bank’s assessment of the ease of doing business around the globe.
