Britain’s vote to leave the European Union has sent a little shiver down spines in the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), which is in the process of morphing into an EU-like economic community.

Britain’s vote to leave the European Union has sent a little shiver down spines in the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), which is in the process of morphing into an EU-like economic community. Since its founding, ASEAN has prided itself on finding consensus among its members, even though this has often meant advancing at the rate of the slowest country. But in the last few years consensus has been harder to achieve, especially over relations with giant neighbour China and such contentious issues as rival claims to the South China Sea.
