Cambodia: Festival flees conflict

One of the more strange spin-offs from Russia’s absorption of Crimea last year is that Cambodia has gained a music festival. The world-renowned KaZantip Festival has been held in the Crimea since 1992, and the 100,000 or so people who attend the two-week bash in August are famed for their orange-coloured fashion statements and their yellow suitcases. But because of the hostilities between Russia and Ukraine, last year’s KaZantip was moved to Anaklia in Georgia. This year’s festival, scheduled for the end of February, is going to be held on Koh Puos island, off Cambodia’s south coast city of Sihanoukville.
