The lure of careers as entrepreneurs has taken a firm grip on the imagination of Cambodian young people, but far too much so according to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport. About half the 220,000 students at universities in Cambodia are taking courses in management, law, accounting, banking and finance. That’s way more than the country needs in those fields. What Cambodia does need is young people qualified in the trades and various branches of engineering. Documents obtained by local media say the ministry is therefore suspending giving licences for college and university courses in business and finance.
