China Eastern Airlines, one of the three largest airlines in China, has launched a non-stop service between Shanghai and Toronto, joining Air Canada on this direct route. China Eastern added the three flights a week after finding that many of the passengers on its Vancouver flights were heading on to Toronto. For these passengers, the non-stop flight cuts the flying time from about 19 hours to 14 hours. According to a report earlier this year, another Chinese carrier, Hainan Airlines, plans to launch a new Shanghai-to-Toronto service using Boeing's new 787 Dreamliner aircraft.
