China may lust to occupy Taiwan, but Beijing shows little generosity towards what it regards as its rebellious children. In the past few years China has made a determined effort to smother Taiwan's global and regional domination of the flat-screen TV market. Between 2003 and 2008 Taiwanese manufacturers held more than 35% of the Hong Kong and China markets. But last year, Taiwan's market share was 27.4%, and Chinese producers have matched that.
