China’s aim of fostering economic growth by boosting domestic consumption and lessening dependence on exports of manufactured goods continues to be elusive.

The American Virginia-based think tank, Manufacturers Alliance for Productivity and Innovation (MAPI), reports that exports continue to dominate the Chinese economy.

For a decade Beijing has been trying to promote domestic consumption to provide a sounder base for economic growth, but that, says MAPI “isn’t happening – at least it didn’t happen in 2013.”
