China: Economic fugitives outfoxed

Chinese President Xi Jinping is just as keen to grab corrupt officials overseas as he is at home.

Chinese President Xi Jinping is just as keen to grab corrupt officials overseas as he is at home. According to Beijing’s Ministry of Public Security, at least 312 “economic fugitives” have been returned from 57 countries in a six-month campaign called “Fox Hunt 2014.” Among the fugitives, 130 have been persuaded to return to China voluntarily and to confess their crimes. They will be treated leniently, says the ministry. But police have arranged the extradition of more than 80 people from Canada, the United States, Australia, Belgium, Japan, Thailand and other countries. They will face trial.
