China: Education degree gap grows

A new report for China’s Ministry of Education shows that over 60% of the graduates coming home after studying abroad have master’s degrees.

But only 6% of the returnees have doctorates.

The director of the study said the reason for the gap is probably that master’s degree students are having to find their own tuition and living costs of about $33,000 a year while doctoral students are probably on scholarships.

The doctoral students therefore don’t feel the same pressure to get home and get to work.
