Hong Kong Tourism Board chairman Peter Lam Kin-ngok is warning that the growing antipathy among the territory's people towards tourists from mainland China threatens the retail and catering sectors. The Hong Kong administration is considering limiting the number of tourists allowed in from China after street protests accusing the visitors of rude behaviour, buying homes at inflated prices and distorting the retail sector by pushing local stores to cater to their desire for luxury goods. Mainland Chinese accounted for 75% of Hong Kong's 54.3 million tourist visitors last year and 34% of retail sales, according to a Bank of America survey.
