Hong Kong’s young people are among the unhappiest in Asia. In a recent poll conducted in Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Japan, Australia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and the Chinese city of Zhongshan, young people aged 18 to 40 were asked to rate their happiness on a scale from zero to 10, with 10 being the happiest. Macau’s young people came bottom of the league, with Hong Kongers only marginally more happy.
Financial burdens and worrying about the future are the major causes of depression among Hong Kong young people. And 36% of young Hong Kongers said they have no clear life goal or direction.
