Narendra Modi, the controversial premier of India's Gujarat state, who may lead the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to power in New Delhi in next year's national elections, is accused of misusing Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to artificially boost his party's popularity.
Investigative website Cobrapost.com claims the BJP has been buying "likes" and "followers" on the social media networks to sway public opinion. The BJP rejects the allegation, saying the Cobrapost.com claims are a "dirty tricks" operation by the ruling Congress Party.
