Indonesia and Australia are reported to have gone a long way toward restoring bilateral relations after serious diplomatic disruption last year. The upheaval was caused by the revelation in papers leaked by U.S. defence contractor Edward Snowden that Australia’s intelligence agency had been routinely spying in Indonesia. The leaks included evidence that the spy agency intercepted mobile phone calls of Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, his wife and inner circle of advisers. It has been announced that Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott will be invited to a forum next month in the Indonesian resort centre of Bali.
