Indonesia is the most populous Muslim country in the world, and, as elsewhere in Islam, the festival Eid al-Fitr after the privations of the month of Ramadan is a joyous day. But the festival, known as Idul Fitri in Indonesia, is also a deadly affair on the roads as Indonesians either flock home for the party or parade around town in huge convoys of motorcycles. However, a massive public education program by Jakarta's police seems to have lowered the death toll in the capital.
