Japan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry is warning that U.S. President Donald Trump’s protectionist policies threaten to unravel the entire structure of the global economy. “Quitting the Trans-Pacific Partnership and renegotiating the North American Free Trade Agreement [NAFTA] will have a significant negative impact on the world economy,” Japan chamber chairman Akio Mimura said in a January 21 statement. Japan is most concerned about Trump’s focus on NAFTA and Mexico, where about 1,000 Japanese companies operate.
