Chie Shinpo is set to become the first woman to head a Japanese bank when she takes over as president of Nomura Trust and Banking Co. on April 1.
The bank is a subsidiary of brokerage giant Nomura Holdings Inc., of which Shinpo is now senior managing director.
Shinpo started with Nomura Securities Co. in 1989 and in 2012 became Nomura Holdings senior managing director in charge of the group’s Asian strategy.
The Japanese Bankers Association says it is the first time a Japanese bank will be led by a woman.
