India has gained a reputation for being home to some of the world’s best-educated and most innovative young people. But if a new ranking of colleges and universities is to be believed, few of them can have been educated at home.
The latest Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings puts none of India’s 700 universities or any of its 35,539 colleges in the top 100 educational institutions.
The Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore is highest ranked at just below 200, while the Punjab University, alma mater of India’s economist Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, is unranked in the 226 to 300 section.
