, Malaysia: Candy cleared

Cadbury breathed a sigh of relief last week after laboratory tests in Malaysia said the candy company's products contain no pig fat. The tests were ordered by the Prime Minister's Department, which is in charge of Islamic affairs in the Muslim-majority country, after the health ministry said it had found porcine DNA in Cadbury bars, and the company's “halal” certification was lifted. Losing the stamp saying its candies are safe for Muslims to eat would have had dire effects on Cadbury's sales not only in Malaysia, but also in the world's most populous Muslim country, Indonesia, and in the Middle East.
