For the third year in a row Malaysia has won the Health and Medical Tourism Destination of the Year award by the International Medical Travel Journal. Malaysia attracts close to one million medical tourists every year, about half of them from neighbouring Indonesia. Dental treatment accounts for about 35% of the tourist procedures, followed by cosmetic surgery, according to the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council. The council predicts that if the business carries on growing at the current rate it will be worth US$3.5 billion a year before the end of 2024.
