Pakistan newspapers are reporting that government officials have become so overwhelmed by endless meetings and details involved in the US$56 billion transportation corridor linking the Indian Ocean port of Gwadar to China that they have lost the big picture. The fear is that Beijing will be given too many tax breaks and be allowed to import too many of its own workers, and that Pakistan will be sold short. One official cornered by reporters last week responded curtly, “Please stop this propaganda against the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.”
