Even some of the Chinese government’s best friends in Asia are beginning to balk at Beijing’s demands for the construction of President Xi Jinping’s One Belt, One Road infrastructure network. On November 16, Pakistan decided to cancel a US$14 billion agreement to build a 4,500-megawatt hydro power project called the Diamer-Bhasha Dam. Pakistan cancelled the construction agreement, a key project in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor framework, because it is “not doable and against our interests.”
