Philippines: Estrada patriarch’s son jailed

The Philippines' Estrada family has a hard time keeping out of jail.

The Philippines' Estrada family has a hard time keeping out of jail. The family godfather, former president Joseph “Erap” Estrada, now the mayor of Manila, was sentenced to life in prison in 2007 for stealing $80 million in government funds, but was pardoned by the woman who ousted him from the presidency, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. Now, his son, Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada, a member of the Philippines Senate, has been jailed awaiting charges of “plunder and graft.” The junior Estrada is among 54 people accused of embezzling the equivalent of $245 million intended for development projects. Estrada is said to have pocketed $3.4 million.
