Singapore and the Malaysian state of Johor are in a tit-for-tat war over each other's cars and trucks. Singapore uses extraordinarily expensive fees of one sort or another to limit the use of vehicles, especially cars, on its cramped little island. It recently announced it is raising the vehicle entry permit fee for foreign cars, most of which come across the bridge from Malaysia, from the equivalent of $17 to $30. In reply, the Malaysian government is to introduce its own vehicle entry permit fee for Singaporean cars and trucks, but it will probably only be the equivalent of $7.
