Over half of middle-class Singaporeans say their greatest challenge is saving enough for their retirement. This is the highest proportion among the 10 countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, where the average is 44%. A recent survey found that as well as being the most difficult goal for middle-class Singaporeans, saving the estimated $1 million needed for retirement is their most important desire, followed by starting their own business and travelling the world. In addition to Singapore, the countries surveyed were Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.
