Ewha Women's University in the South Korean capital Seoul is the world's second-largest female education institute and one of the most prestigious in Asia. Many young women, especially in China, aspire to win places at Ewha, and the university campus is suffering severe disruption as a result. Hundreds of young Chinese women are flocking to Ewha every day – hundreds more on weekends – to have their pictures taken on the campus in the hope this will bring good luck to their applications. Some are even wearing Ewha graduation gowns for their pictures, presumably to further enhance the good luck charm.
